Event Description:

Proposal Management for Non-Proposal Managers
In many small businesses, the person responsible for responding to government solicitations is not formally trained as a proposal manager. Effective bid responses are those that win. Increase your win rate by refining your process to incorporate industry best practices.

This class was developed for small business leaders, with customization to simplify the process and maximize existing functional roles. Attendees will come away with tactical ideas to incorporate into their proposal process and responses for all levels of government – local, state and federal. The ideal participant is the small business owner and the person responsible for responding to government solicitations.  Topics covered include:

  • Structure the Proposal Team
  • Right-Size Your Process
  • Make Smart Bid Decisions
  • Plan and Outline
  • Kick Off with Purpose
  • Develop Win Themes
  • Write Effectively
  • Use a Reader-Friendly Layout
  • Conduct Color Reviews
  • Finalize, Produce and Assemble

Sue Schweim Tellier owns JetCo Solutions with her husband, Jon. In business since 2007, JetCo Solutions helps small businesses sell to government agencies. This includes the entire life cycle of government sales, from capture through bid writing and submission. A specialist in proposal management and B2G marketing, Sue is the former head of Supplier Diversity and Business Outreach for the State of Michigan.

Also you will hear from Pam Poort of
Muskegon Area First Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) and from Dustin Frigy of Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC.)

PTAC will be providing an overview of the government contracting services they provide to businesses in 13 counties.

The Michigan Defense Center, an operation of the MEDC, will introduce the Bid Targeting System, a free tool for identifying and prioritizing federal contract opportunities, and the Proposal Writing Service program, which provides grants that will help businesses develop winning bids.
